S.I.N. has been set up to help reduce the number of Hospital Acquired Infections and the serious consequences of them in Ireland. We aim to do this by getting information about the control and prevention of such infections to as many people as possible. This involves research and listening to international experts in the area. We are also carrying out additional research on the social and psychological effects of HCAIs on survivors and bereaved family members. The matters of no-fault compensation schemes and the rights of patients as consumers are under consideration at the moment.
Fund-raising is not our primary function, and we have no paid officials – all administration and secretarial work is voluntary. However, we do need to cover the expenses of those we get to share their knowledge with us, and the costs of the (standard fare) travel we have to do from time to time.
